Are you an ice cream lover? Did you know National Ice Cream Day is the 3rd Sunday in July and that Ice Cream Day is the 13th of December? In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared July as National Ice Cream Month and the 3rd Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day.
A Little History
Ice cream originated in the 4th century B.C. Roman Emperor Nero (A.D. 37-68) ordered ice to be brought from the mountains and combined with fruit toppings. King Tang (A.D. 618-97) of Shang , China had a method for creating ice and milk concoctions.
Ice cream was likely brought from China to Europe where recipes for ices, sherbets, and milk ices evolved. Later the dessert was imported to America and served for early American Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. In 1843, Nancy Johnson created the first ice cream machine. This ice cream machine included a crank that mixed ingredients together so it would freeze smoothly. Then, making ice cream was a long, tedious process; today, ice cream machines make it easy.
